World Day of Social Justice celebrated on 20th February :
The World celebrates World Day of Social Justice every year on 20 February to promote Social Justice that including addressing the issues such as gender inequality, human rights, poverty, Social Inclusion and other things that hamper the idea of social justice.
The International Labour Organization(ILO) adopted the ILO Declaration on Social Justice on 10 June 2008. As per the declaration, Social justice is an underlying principle for peaceful and prosperous coexistence within and among nations or individuals. Moreover, it also provided some specific ways to ensure social justice that includes employment, social dialogue, social protection and fundamental principles and rights.
Every year's celebration is observed with a specific theme. This year's theme for World Day of Social Justice is 'Achieving Social Justice through Formal Employment'.
Why Such a theme this year?
Ok, it's quite common. Have a look at your neighbourhood and count how many people you can find who got a regular secured job? The number must be very less compared to Informal Jo. The problem with most Informal job is it doesn't provide job security and ultimately failed to provide social security. That's the why UN thinks the transition to formal employment is the need of the hour to promote social equality and justice.
History of the Days:
The United Nations General Assembly approved the celebration of World Day of Social Justice on February 20 in 2007(26th November). The first World Day of Social Justice was celebrated in 2009.
