Portugal’s centre-left Socialists Party won an outright majority in the recently concluded poll, securing the mandate for the re-election of Prime Minister Antonio Costo. The result is indeed a surprise for all analysts as Socialists had lost most of their advantage in recent opinion polls.

The Socialist Party bagged 117 seats out of  230 seats of Parliament, while the main opposition centre-right Portugal Social Democratic Party managed to win 71 seats. Resulting in a landslide victory for the socialist party. Antonio Costo is in power since 2015, he managed to pull out debt stricken Portugal and even create a surplus by 2019.

Antonio Costo in his victory speech pointed out that an absolute majority doesn't mean absolute power or governing alone, but it's increased responsibility to govern for and along with all Portuguese.
