Nepal will be the first country to adopt India’s UPI system. Nepal Govt thinks UPI will play a vital role in transforming the digital economy of the country and help in further digital inclusion. NPCI International Payments Ltd (NIPL), the international arm of the National Payments Corporation of India (NPCI), has joined hands with Gateway Payments Service (GPS) & Manam Infotech to provide the services. Gateway Payments Service is the authorized payment system operator in Nepal while Manam Infotech will deploy the Unified Payments Interface (UPI) in Nepal.
NPCI was established in 2008 under the companies act 2013 by RBI and Indian Banks' Association, to settle and carry retail payments. On 11th April 2016 NPCI introduced UPI in India which helped hugely in digital inclusion in India. UPI is a real-time person-to-person (P2P) and person-to-merchant (P2M) transactions mechanism.
