Lieutenant General GAV Reddy was appointed as the Director-General of the Defence Intelligence Agency, succeeding Lieutenant General KJS Dhillon. Director-General is the head of the Defence Intelligence Agency(DIA). Director-General is the principal advisor to the Minister of Defence and chief of defence forces. The post is held rotationally by the candidate from three armed services(Army, Air Force and Navy).
DIA is an agency under the aegis of the Ministry of Defence created in 2002. It is responsible for providing and coordinating defence-related information to Indian Arm Force. DIA is superior and chief coordinator for the Directorate of Military Intelligence, Directorate of Air Intelligence and Directorate of Naval Intelligence. All operations of DIA are highly classified and stored in a coded format.
