International Day of Women and Girls in Science is celebrated on 11 February:
On 11 February International Day of Women and Girls in Science is observed across the globe. In 2015 UN adopted the resolution, marking this day, celebrated for the first time in 2016. This year marked the 7th year of the International Day of Women and Girls in Science. The day aims to recognize the role of women and girls in science, as agents of change. Further, it wants to ensure equal participation of women and girls in the fields of Science, Technology, Engineering and Mathematics (STEM).
UNESCO and UN-Women are the implementing agency for this day. They participate and collab with institutions and civil society partners to promote the participation of women and girls in science. Every year a theme is chosen to mark particular aims and views. The theme of the 2022 International Day of Women and Girls in Science is 'Equity, Diversity, and Inclusion: Water Unites Us'.
