INDIA DEFEATED CHINA TO WIN BRONZE MEDAL IN THE WOMEN'S HOCKEY ASIA CUP 2022 :
The Indian women's hockey team won the bronze medal after beating former champion China 2-0 in the third-place play-off at the Women's Hockey Asia Cup on Friday 29 January. Although the team failed to defend their Asia Cup title, Savita Punia and her team lost to China in Oman.
Sharmila Devi's goal in the 13th minute and Gurjit Kaur's goal in the 19th minute helped India to beat China in a repeat of the last edition's final in Muscat. Gurjit was involved in both goals as the Women in Blue put on a clinical performance in Muscat. Contextually, she was instrumental in helping India reach the semifinals of the Tokyo Olympics. After defeating Malaysia 9-0 in their opening match, India lost 0-2 to Asian Games champions Japan. After that, India beat Singapore 9-1 to qualify for the semifinals. But some sloping defending and weak penalty corner conversions in the semifinals gave India hope. Because of that, they lost 2-3 to Korea.
