Govt of India sanctioned fund for Medaram Jatara, the second-largest fair of India-
The Union Ministry of Tribal Affairs allocated a fund of INR 2.26 Crores for various activities relate to Medaram Jatara 2022. Medaram Jatara is the second-largest fair of India, just after Kumbh Mela, Celebrated by Koya tribes, a major tribal community of Telangana. It is a 4 day long gathering, organized every second year. This years celebration will be from 16th-19th February, 2022.
In 1996 the jatara was declared a State Festival. From 2018 onwards The Union Ministry of Tribal Affairs was roped in and started to provide fund for organization and to build infrastructure around the festival site. It's important to note that as part of AzadiKa Amrit Mahotsav Govt. Of India declared that Tribal Culture and Heritage will be the cynosure of 2022.
Medaram Jathara is celebrated in honour of the Hindu Tribal Goddesses Sammakka and Saralamma. Devotees offer Jaggery(Bangaram) to the goddess and after that jatara begins. In connection to the goddess the jatara also termed as Sammakka Saralamma Jatara.
