Every year to mark the birth anniversary of “Hakim Ajmal Khan”, a distinguished Indian Unani physician World Unani Day is celebrated on February 11. In 2017, the Central Research Institute of Unani Medicine (CRIUM), Hyderabad for the first time observed World Unani Day.
The objective of the day:
To spread awareness around the globe about the Unani system of medicine, which put emphasis on both preventive and curative cures.
Unani system of medicine:
Unani system of medicine originated in Greece, Hippocrates was held across as the founder of Unani. Though originated in Greece its present form owes to the Arabs, as they translated much of greek documents to Arabic and with days goes Arabs enriched this further.
Position of Unani in India:
Unani system of medicine was introduced in India by the Arabs and Persians dates back to circa. 11th century. Though at present not as widely spread as in the medieval age, still India is home to the largest number of Unani educational, research and health care institutions.
SPECIAL NOTES FOR ASPIRANTS:
- Hakim Ajmal Khan, the only Muslim to chair a session of Hindu Mahasabha.
- Hakim Ajmal Khan was one of founder of Jamia Millia Islamia(1920).
- Ayurvedic and Unani Tibbia College was also established by Hakim Ajmal Khan.
