10th February is celebrated across the globe as World Pulses Day:
World Pulses Day is observed every year on 10 February. The day was recognised by Food and Agriculture Organization (FAO), a specialized agency of the United Nations to recognize the importance of pulses (dry beans, lentils, dry peas, chickpeas, lupins) as important ready to have nutritional healthy superfood. The day is celebrated every year with a specific theme, this years theme is “Pulses to empower youth in achieving sustainable agri-food systems”.
The first World Pulses Day was celebrated on February 10, 2019. It is important to note, earlier UN General Assembly declared 2016 as the International Year of Pulses. FAO use this day to spread public awareness of the nutritional( Rich source of minerals, protein and vitamins) and environmental benefits(Pulses require very little water input) of pulses as part of sustainable food production.
So what is pulses exactly?
Pulses sometimes referred to as legumes, are the edible seeds of leguminous plants. Some Common examples of pulses are Dried beans, lentils and peas.
