UTTAR PRADESH HAS BEEN RANKED THE BEST STATE IN THE 2020 NATIONAL WATER AWARDS IN AN EFFORT TO CONSERVE WATER :

      Uttar Pradesh has been ranked as the best state in water conservation effort for 2020. Union Minister Gajendra Singh Shekhawat has made the announcement on Friday, January 7, 2022, and the Ministry of Jal Shakti ranked Rajasthan and Tamil Nadu second and third, respectively, for their work and efforts to conserve water.

      The Minister of Jal Shakti said that the country needed 1,000 billion cubic meters of water per year to meet its agricultural, irrigation, industrial and household requirements. Speaking at the 2020 National Water Awards, Shekhawat said water usage is increasing but water availability is decreasing. As rainfall patterns change, water demand will increase from 1,000 billion cubic meters to 1,400-1,500 billion cubic meters by 2050. So we should take effective steps with a positive attitude so that water wastage can be reduced, he added.

      Muzaffarnagar in Uttar Pradesh has won the best district award in the northern zone and Shaheed Bhagat Singh Nagar in Punjab came second. In the south, Thiruvananthapuram in Kerala has got the best district award. Kadapa of Andhra Pradesh has secured the second position. Among the eastern districts, East Champaran in Bihar and Godda in Jharkhand have been ranked first and second respectively. In the west, Indore in Madhya Pradesh ranked first and Vadodara in Gujarat and Banswara in Rajasthan have been secured the second position jointly.
