 Sathyamangalam Tiger Reserve got the TX2 award:


The Sathyamangalam Tiger Reserve is situated in the state of Tamil Nadu has been honoured with the prestigious TX2 award as its tiger numbers doubled to 83 since 2010. Other than 
Sathyamangalam Tiger  Reserve,
the Bardia National Park in Nepal got this year's TX2 award.

Sathyamangalam Tiger Reserve, a part of the Nilgiri biosphere reserve declared a tiger reserve in 2013 by Govt. of India. The reserve covers an area of 1,411.6 km square and forms an important wildlife corridor between western ghat and eastern ghats. It is important to note that it holds a significant number of the leopard population with a count of 111.

What is the TX2 award?
The award recognizes the effort of one site that has achieved a remarkable and measurable increase in its tiger population since 2010, contributed toward the TX2 goal. Conservation Assured Tiger Standards (CA|TS), Global Tiger Forum, Fauna & Flora International, IUCN Integrated Tiger Habitat Conservation Programme, Panthera, UNDP Lion’s Share, Wildlife Conservation Society and WWF’s Tigers Alive Initiative jointly give this award.
