PM NARENDRA MODI HAS LAID THE FOUNDATION STONE OF MAJOR DHYAN CHAND SPORTS UNIVERSITY :

      The Prime Minister of India Narendra Modi has laid the foundation stone of Major Dhyan Chand Sports University in Meerut. The university will be established in the villages of Salawa and Kaili in the town of Sardhana in Meerut.

      A total of Rs 700 crore will be spent to establish the university, it has been reported. The university will have a total training capacity of 1080 athletes, including 540 female and 540 male athletes. Dhyan Chand Sports University will be equipped with synthetic hockey field, football field, basketball, volleyball, handball, kabaddi field, lawn tennis court, gymnasium hall, synthetic running stadium, swimming pool, multipurpose modern and sophisticated functional infrastructure. In addition, the university will have training facilities for shooting, squash, gymnastics, weightlifting, archery, canoeing and kayaking.

SPECIAL NOTES FOR ASPIRANTS :

• Major Dhyan Chand was born on August 29, 1905.

• The nicknames of the Dhyan Chand are The Wizard, The Magician.

• Dhyan Chand received the Padma Bhushan in 1956.

• Dhyan Chand passed away on December 3, 1979.
