On 30th January 2022, 74th Martyrs’ Day was Celebrated across nation:
Martyr’s Day or Shaheed Diwas is marked every year on January 30 in the memory of the great Mahatma Gandhi, who was assassinated by Nathuram Godse at an inter-faith prayer meeting in the Birla House, Delhi in 1948.
The President, Vice President, Prime Minister, and the Defense Minister on 30 January assemble at the Rajghat, the Samadhi of Mahatma Gandhi to pay homage by putting a garland of flowers on the statue of Mohandas Karamchand Gandhi. An honourable salute is also given by the armed forces personnel and inter-services contingent to pay respect to the martyrs.
Contextually it is important to note that, Birla House is the place where Gandhiji spent his last 144 days of life. The Birla House was opened to the commons on 15 August 1973 and renamed the Gandhi Smriti. An Eternal Gandhi Multimedia Museum was established there in 2005.
