Late General Bipin Rawat to be Posthumously Awarded Padma Vibhushan || Some Information about the Accident and Him || 2022 ||

LATE GENERAL BIPIN RAWAT TO BE POSTHUMOUSLY AWARDED PADMA VIBHUSHAN :

      India's first Chief of Defense Staff (CDS) Late General Bipin Rawat to receive posthumous Padma Vibhushan. He and his wife died in a tragic helicopter crash in December 2021.

      On the eve of Republic Day, the Home Ministry announced the Padma Awards. Contextually, Padma Vibhushan is the second highest civilian award in the country. Late General Rawat was killed in a helicopter crash. When he was on his way to talk to faculty and student officers of the Staff Course at the Defense Services Staff College in Wellington, his helicopter crashed. His helicopter crashed into a mountain in the fog just 10 kilometres from the helipad. All but one died at the accidental spot. Late General Bipin Rawat was the longest four star general.

• Late Gen Bipin Rawat was born on 16 March 1958 in Pauri, Uttarakhand.

• He lived in New Delhi.

• On December 30, 2019, he was appointed as the first Chief of Defense Staff (CDS) of India.

• He was a four-star general of the Indian Army.

• He was in service from 16 December 1978 until his death on 8 December 2021.
