First “District Good Governance Index” of India:
Union minister of home and cooperation Amit shah in the presence of Union minister Jitendra Singh and Jammu and Kashmir's lieutenant governor Manoj Sinha virtually launched the "District Good Governance Index" for 20 districts of Jammu and Kashmir. With this Jammu and Kashmir becomes the first UT or State to release a good governance index at the district level.
This index has been prepared by the Department of Administrative Reforms and Public Grievances (DARPG) in collaboration with the administrators of Jammu & Kashmir. The top 5 districts in the District Good Governance Index are (1) Jammu, (2) Doda, (3) Samba, (4) Pulwama and (5) Srinagar.
During the launching event, Shah said that the index will benefit residents of Jammu and Kashmir in a big way as it will work towards improving the district machinery and thrust for result-oriented governance. Moreover, he also pointed out that slowly this index will expand to all the districts of India and a good governance competition will start in every district of the country.
SPECIAL NOTES FOR ASPIRANTS:
- Jammu and Kashmir Reorganisation Act,2019 came into effect on 31st October 2019 resulting in two new, Jammu & Kashmir and Ladakh.
- Kashmiri and Dogri are the two main languages in J&K.
- Shalimar Bagh and Nishant Bagh were built by Mughal Emperor Jahangir present in Srinagar.
