 17th Raising Day of NDRF Celebrated across the nation:

Every year on January 19, National Disaster Response Force [NDRF] marks its Raising Day.NDRF, the apex body in India responsible for disaster management, was formed in the year 2006. It derives its power from The Disaster Management Act,2005.

NDRF which was Initially constituted with 8 battalions, now serves the nation through 12 battalion wings. Each Battalion consists of 1149 personnel, which makes it the world largest single force dedicated to disaster management. NDRF rescuers have often been termed 'Angels in Disaster'. As per the official data to date, NDRF has rescued over 1.44 lakh precious human lives and evacuated more than 7 lakh stranded persons within the country and abroad.

National Disaster Response Force is headed by a DG(Director General). The siting DG of NDRF- Atul Karwal, IPS. It comes under the Ministry of Home Affairs.
