NAGALAND HAS CELEBRATED ITS 59TH STATEHOOD DAY :
On December 1, 2021, Nagaland has celebrated its 59th Statehood Day. On December 1, 1963, Nagaland was granted statehood. With this Kohima was declared as the capital.
In 1957, Naga leaders and the central government signed an agreement to create a separate region of the Naga Hills, thus giving Nagaland statehood by enacting The State of Nagaland Act, 1962. Nagaland is the first state in the north-east to emerge as the 16th state of the Indian Union, split from Assam. Pursuant to Article 371-A, no Act of Parliament shall apply to certain matters of Nagaland. Matters include religious or social practices of Nagas, Naga customary law and procedure, administration of civil or criminal justice so that decisions are made according to Naga customary law and ownership and transfer of land and its resources.
