After Bipin Rawat's death in a helicopter crash, Manoj Mukund Naravane has been appointed as the 2nd CDS (Chief of Defence Staff) of India. M.M Naravane is currently serving as the Chief of the Army Staff (COAS). On 31st December 2019, Bipin Rawat took over as the country's first Army Commander Chief. He was supposed to remain in this post till April 2022.
Manoj Mukund Naravane was born on 22nd April 1960 in Pune, India. Naravane's father Mukund Naravane is a former officer in the Indian Air Force who retired and his mother Sudha was an announcer at All India Radio. M.M Naravane holds M.A. and M.Phil degree in Defense and Management studies. Currently he is following a Doctorate in Defense and Strategic studies from Punjab University, Patiala. Naravane achieved many awards Param Vishisht Seva Medal (2019), Ati Vishisht Seva Medal (2017),Sena Medal(2015), Vishisht Seva Medal (2015).
