1000 ATAL TINKERING LABS WILL BE SET UP IN JAMMU AND KASHMIR :
1000 Atal Tinkering Labs to be set up in Jammu and Kashmir. NITI Aayog will soon set up 187 labs by the end of the current financial year, the Union Territory (UT) administration said on Thursday, December 9, 2021.
NITI Aayog will build the labs as part of an initiative. The purpose of the initiative is to give children the opportunity to experiment and understand scientific facts. Of the 187 labs, 31 will be established in government schools under UT, according to a statement issued by the administration. The statement further said that 50 labs would be set up at Kendriya Vidyalayas, Jawahar Navodaya Vidyalayas and private schools and the process of setting up the remaining 106 labs would begin soon. UT Chief Secretary Dr Arun Kumar Mehta in a meeting with the concerned department officials said that these centers should be considered as innovation centers as a means of exposing children to scientific experiments. The Chief Secretary directed the department to fix the time frame for setting up of laboratories. He asked the officials to insist on the selection of trainers or champions to run the labs against the appropriate incentives. He said officials should work with other government departments to ensure regular maintenance of infrastructure and equipment in labs.
