UTTARAKHAND FOREST DEPARTMENT HAS OPENED 'AROMATIC GARDEN' :
A research wing of the Uttarakhand Forest Department has inaugurated a aromatic garden. The garden is located at Lalkuan in Nainital district. Speaking of this garden context, Chief Conservator of Forests (Research) Sanjiv Chaturvedi said that the aromatic garden has been inaugurated to create awareness about the various aromatic species that are conserved and to promote further research. This will also improve the livelihood of the local people, creating a way to determine their livelihood.
The garden is spread over three acres and contains about 140 different species of aromatic plants. In June 2018, it received approval from the Research Advisory Committee (RAC) to build the garden. The project started in the financial year 2018-19. This project is funded under the Compensatory Afforestation Fund Management and Planning Authority (CAMPA) scheme, a project of the Central Government. The main reason behind choosing Lalkuan is that the place is notorious for bad smells because of the stench coming from certain industrial units. The role of these plants in making spices, pesticides and repellents is immense, and the extracts of these plants are used in cosmetics for flavor and aroma.
