The Wangala Festival Has Recently Started in Meghalaya || Some Information about The Wangala Festival || 2021 ||

THE WANGALA FESTIVAL HAS RECENTLY STARTED IN MEGHALAYA :

      A festival called "Wangala" has recently started in the state of Meghalaya. This festival is the 100 Drums Festival. This 2021 festival is the 44th edition. Every year the Garos tribe celebrate this festival in honour of their sun god "Saljong".

      The "Wangala" festival has been celebrated since 1976. The most important event of the Garos tribe is a very popular topic among the tourists. During this time the tribes offer sacrifices to please their sun god "Saljong". According to the custom of the festival, a ceremony is held on the first day at the house of the head of the village, which is called Ragula. Indigenous people wear colorful costumes with feathered headgear at the festival. On the second day they dance to the beat of a long oval drum, this dance is named as Kakkat. There are other festivals in Meghalaya that attract tourists, such as Nongkrem Dance Festival, Ahaia, Behdeinkhlam Festival, Shad Sukra etc.
