PRAVEEN SINHA HAS BEEN ELECTED TO EXECUTIVE COMMITTEE OF THE INTERPOL :

On Thursday, November 25, Indian Praveen Sinha has been elected to the executive committee of Interpol. Official sources said that he has been selected as a delegate for Asia and India has capped an "intense" and "well-coordinated" campaign around the world. Contextually, he is the Special Director of the Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI).

The elections at the ongoing 89th Interpol General Assembly in Istanbul have been held for various positions on the top panel, which has 13 members, including the president and three vice presidents, apart from 9 delegates. The Interpol General Assembly is attended by members from all over the world to represent their respective countries as it maintains a geographical balance. India is represented by Praveen Sinha, who has been with representatives from Sudan, Argentina, China, USA, UK, Kenya, Spain and Turkey. The committee is chaired by the UAE and has its vice presidents from Nigeria, Brazil and the Czech Republic. Sources said that two CBI directors had earlier served as vice presidents of the committee. A statement from another source said the election was "extremely difficult" for India as it had to contend with four other rivals - China, Singapore, the Republic of Korea and Jordan - as there were only two posts. Praveen Sinha, a 1988 batch IPS officer of Gujarat cadre, has served in the CBI twice in the last two decades. Sinha was appointed interim director after CBI director Rishi Kumar Shukla retired in February 2021.
