PRATHAM HAS GOT THE INDIRA GANDHI PEACE PRIZE 2021 :
Pratham has received the Indira Gandhi Peace Prize 2021. Pratham is a non-governmental organisation (NGO) whose main objective is to provide quality education to disadvantaged children around the world.
Pratham was established in 1994 to teach in the slums of Mumbai. The organization has set up community-based preschools to educate children who are lagging behind in education by age. Every year about 5 million children benefit from Pratham's initiative. Its outreach has reached nearly 1 million children with government partnership. The lockdown caused by COVID-19 had a devastating effect on the education system. At that time Pratham took various initiatives to ensure that children could not lose their regular quality education by using innovative digital technology. According to Devyani Parshad, head of communications and international collaborations at Pratham, Pratham's community network and digital innovation, built year after year, has been able to reach more than 10,000 children in the community with creative and learning content through the period of school closures. Pratham organised a number of special programs to prevent children from "dropping out" of school during the pandemic, ensuring that girls and women had a second chance to complete their education.
