MANIPUR HAS RECENTLY INAUGURATED 29 MUSEUMS TO PRESERVE TRIBAL CULTURE :
The Manipur government has recently decided to open 29 museums. Munipur Chief Minister N. Biren Singh has virtually inaugurated 29 museums. The main objective of this initiative is to preserve and promote the art and culture of different tribes prevalent in the state.
29 museums have been set up in 10 districts of Manipur. One of the goals of this initiative is to promote the cultural heritage of 29 tribes. This 29 tribes on which this initiative has been taken are Anal, Chothe, Lamkang, Monsang, Moyon, Tarao, Aimol, Maring, Mate, Chiru, Kharam, Koireng, Thadou, Purum, Gangte, Paite, Zou, Kom, Simte, Vaiphei, Thangal, Mao, Maram, Inpui, Zeme, Hmar, Tangkhul, Rongmei and Kabui tribes. Speaking at the inauguration of the museums, Manipur Chief Minister N. Biren Singh said that the state government has decided to set up 31 tribal museums jointly with the Manipur State Department of Archeology, Arts and Culture. Of these 31 museums, six each at Chandel and Churachandpur, 3 at Tengnuoupal, five at Kangpokpi, four at Senapati, three at Tamenglong, one each at Pherzawl, Ukhrul, Noney and Imphal East district. Although two of these museums are still under construction.
