M. MUKUNDAN HAS GOT THE 2021 JCB AWARD FOR LITERATURE :
The winner of the 2021 JCB Awards has been announced on 13 November. This year's winner is Malayalam writer M. Mukundan. He has received this award for his book "Delhi: A Soliloquy". The book was originally written in Malayalam and was published by Westland. However, Fathima E. V. and Nandakumar K. have translated the book into English.
The Malayalam translation won the award three times. The award was first launched in 2018, with a prize money of Rs 25 lakh. Earlier, Benyamin's "Jasmine Days" (2018) and S. Hareesh's "Mustache" (2020) had won the award, these two books are also Malayalam translation books. M. Mukundan has won a trophy in addition to cash. The name of this trophy is "Mirror Melting", this trophy is made by Delhi artist duo Thukral and Tagra. Winner M. Mukundan hopes that as a result of receiving this award, his book will spread to different parts of his country, including abroad. He has also hinted that the book could be translated into many languages. The book was selected by a panel of five judges. The judges are chairperson and writer Sara Rai, designer and art historian Annapurna Garimella, writer and translator Shahnaz Habib, journalist and editor Prem Panicker and writer and podcaster Amit Verma. Incidentally, the book "Delhi: A Soliloquy" provides an account of life in an unusually difficult time in Delhi.
