DAMON GALGUT HAS RECEIVED 2021 BOOKER PRIZE :

      South African Damon Galgut has won 2021 Booker Prize. The winner of the 2021 Booker Prize has been announced on Wednesday, November 3, 2021. Damon Galgut is a well-known playwright and novelist. He is the third South African to receive the Booker Prize after J. M. Coetzee and Nadine Gordimer.

      Damon Galgut won the Booker Prize for his third shortlisted novel, The Promise. The background of this novel revolves around a family. The novel "The Promise" describes a family in his homeland from the end of apartheid era to the presidency of Jacob Zuma. For decades, the book chronicles how the family was gradually separated when South Africa became a democracy. Damon Galgut, 57, said in a televised address in London that he was deeply and humbly grateful for the award. With this he has paid homage to his own continent. Damon Galgut has received £50,000 as prize.
