A NAVAL EXERCISE CALLED COORDINATED PATROL (CORPAT) HAS BEEN HELD BETWEEN INDIA AND INDONESIA :
India and Indonesia has recently held a naval exercise called Coordinated patrol, abbreviated CORPAT. This is the 37th edition of the CORPAT exercise. CORPAT is a naval exercise between India and Indonesia held twice a year along their International Maritime Boundary Line. It was first held in 2002. This year's 37th edition has been held in the Indian Ocean from November 23 to November 24.
During the CORPAT exercise, the Indian Naval Ship (INS) Khanjar, along with the Dornier Maritime Patrol Aircraft, has carried on a coordinated patrol with the Indonesian Naval Ship KRI Sultan Thaha Syaifuddin. These INS Khanjar and KRI Sultan Thaha Syaifuddin are an Indian Natively Made Missile Corvette and a Kapitan Patimura-Class Corvette respectively. Maritime Patrol Aircraft of both the countries have participated in the 37th edition of CORPAT. This exercise for COVID-10 pandemic has been conducted as' non-contact, "at sea only". The objectives of the CORPAT exercise are to highlight the mutual trust, coordination and cooperation between the two friendly navies, to ensure the security and safety of shipping and international trade in the region, to help to suppress Illegal Unreported Unregulated (IUU) fishing, armed robbery, maritime terrorism, piracy and strengthening the SAGAR (Security and Growth for All in the Region) vision of the Government of India. In addition to the CORPAT exercise, two more defense exercises are being conducted between these two countries - Samudra Shakti and Garuda Shakti. Samudra Shakti is a maritime exercise and Garuda Shakti is a military exercise.
