WORLD MENTAL HEALTH DAY :

      World Mental Health Day is celebrated around the world on October 10 every year. This day is celebrated to improve the mental health of the people. This day was first celebrated as an annual activity since October 10, 1992. When this celebration day was at an initial stage, there was no specific theme for it. At the time, its purpose was to promote mental health advocacy and provide adequate education to the general public about mental health issues, but later, seeing its popularity, a theme was put forward for the first time in 1994, "Improving the Quality of Mental Health Services throughout the world."

      This mental health has caught the attention of people especially during this Pandemic time. People of different ages and different livelihoods are being victims of this "mental degradation" situation. Students, including health workers, people living alone and those who are already suffered from depression, are particularly affected. According to World Health Organization (WHO), people who suffer from mental health problems are more likely to die. Depression is one of the few common mental health problems that can lead to a significant increase in suicides. World Mental Health Day usually creates an opportunity to talk about mental health, how to break the stigma around it, and the importance of talking while fighting mental health problems.

• There were some early themes, "Women and Mental Health" (1996), "Children and Mental Health" (1997), "Mental Health and Human Rights" (1998) and "Mental Health and Ageing" (1999).

• On 7 April, 1948, WHO was established.

• Tedros Adhanom is director general of WHO.

• Its headquarters is located at Geneva, Switzerland.
