International Day for the elimination of Nuclear Weapon
INTERNATIONAL DAY FOR THE ELIMINATION OF NUCLEAR WEAPONS :

The United Nations General Assembly celebrates 26 September as the International Day for the Elimination of Nuclear Weapons. This day provides an opportunity for the world community to reconfirm its commitment to global nuclear disarmament.

It provides an opportunity that the people and their leaders should learn about the real benefits of eliminating such weapons and the social and economic costs of sustaining them. It is especially important to celebrate this day at the United Nations, as it has long experience of universal membership and involvement in the issue of nuclear disarmament. It is the right opportunity to recall one of humanity's greatest challenges ; achieving the peace and security of a world without nuclear weapons. According to United Nations General Assembly, the main aim of this day is to raise public awareness and enhance education about the threat to humanity by nuclear weapons and the necessity for elimination of nuclear weapons. By celebrating this day, it is hoped that activities will help for mobilization of new international efforts to achieve the common goal of a "nuclear weapon free world".
