PM POSHAN SCHEME :

      The Mid-Day Meal scheme has been renamed to PM POSHAN scheme. The full name of PM POSHAN scheme is Pradhan Mantri Poshan Shakti Nirman. Pre-primary children will be nourished under this scheme. The central government has decided to cover 28 lakh pre-primary children too who are under the current Integrated Child Development Services (ICDS).

      The Modi government started this PM POSHAN scheme which is renamed and extended of existing Mid-Day Meal scheme to provide proper nutrition to pre-primary school students. It is hoped that this scheme will provide nutrition to 11.80 crore children in about 11.20 lakh schools across the country. According to a report, a nutritional expert will be appointed in each school so that every child's BMI, hemoglobin, weight level can be normal. The scheme will cost around Rs 1.31 lakh crore in a period of five years from 2021-22 to 2025-26. The government has also informed that university and college students will also be engaged to monitor implementation of the scheme through field visits.

SPECIAL NOTES FOR ASPIRANTS :

• The Mid-Day Meal scheme was first introduced by the Government of India in 1995.

• The existing Mid-Day Meal scheme has been renamed to PM POSHAN (Pradhan Mantri Poshan Shakti Nirman) scheme.

• The scheme will cost around Rs 1.31 crore in a period of five years from 2021-22 to 2015-26.

• Of the total expenditure, Rs 54,061 crore will be borne by the central government. There, the states will have to spend Rs 31,733 crore on this scheme.

• It is hoped that this scheme will provide nutrition to 11.80 crore children in about 11.20 lakh schools across the country.
