VIJAYANAGARA DISTRICT :

      On 2 October 2021, the Chief Minister of Karnataka Basavaraj Bommai inaugurated the district. Vijayanagara is a district in the state of Karnataka. The district became the 31st district of the state, carved out of Bellary district in 2020. The headquarters of Vijayanagara district is Hospet.

      This region was ruled by the eminent Vijayanagara Empire. The district is the former capital of the Vijayanagara Empire and is home to UNESCO World Heritage Sites such as Hampi and Virupaksha Temple. This region belonged to the Madras Presidency during the British colonial rule. The states were started to form after the independence of India. When Andhra was formed in 1953, this region became a part of the Bellary district of Mysore State. Vijayanagara district is currently in the Hyderabad-Karnataka region which is located in the northeastern part of Karnataka. Vijayanagara district has been formed and become the 31st district of Karnataka 2020 by removing six taluks from Bellary district in 2020. The B. S. Yediyurappa government approved and notified the formation of this district on 18 November 2020.
