INDIA'S FIRST TEST TUBE BANNI BUFFALO CALF WAS BORN IN GUJARAT'S GIR SOMNATH DISTRICT :
The country's first test-tube buffalo calf was born at a farmer's house in Gujarat's Gir Somnath district. This newborn buffalo calf is a buffalo of the 'Banni' species. Even in arid environments, Banni buffaloes are capable of producing high amounts of milk. This buffalo calf was born through IVF (In vitro fertilization) technology.
This 'Banni' breed of buffalo is mainly found in the Kutch region of Gujarat. The main purpose of starting this process is to increase the number of genetically improved buffaloes, which will also increase milk production. An Ovum Pick-Up (OPU) procedure was planned for IVF of Banni buffalo in December 2020, a statement said. According to a statement released by the Ministry of Animal Husbandry and Dairy, this is the first IVF 'Banni' calf born out of 6 'Banni' IVF pregnancies at the doorstep of Sushila Agro Farm of Vinay L Wala in Dhanej, Gir Somnath District, Gujarat. The ministry said that 15 embryos were transplanted, resulting in 6 out of 18 'banni' pregnancies (40 percent pregnancy rate). Among them, the country's first IVF 'Banni' buffalo calf was born recently. This process has been completed by JKBovagenix of NGO JK Trust.
