THE COUNTRY'S LARGEST OPEN AIR FERNERY :

       On 12 September, 2021 the country's largest open air fernery was inaugurated by famous expert on ferns, Nilambar Kunetha in Almora district of Uttarakhand.

        The fernery was produced by the research branch of the Uttarakhand Forest Department for a period of three years under Centre's compensatory afforestation project CAMPA.


SPECIAL NOTE FOR ASPIRANTS :

• The Chief Conservator of Forest (Research) Sanjiv Chaturvedi said that the fernery has 120 different types of fern with Jawaharlal Nehru Tropical Botanical Garden and Research Institute (TBGRI).

• It has been built on four acres of land at Ranikhet in Uttarakhand's Almora district, providing an ideal place for open air fernery.

• In a shady area, the fernery has been developed at altitude of 1,800 meters, which provides adequate moisture as ferns need shade and moisture to grow and breed.

• There are about 30 species of fern which have great medical importance. Among these species, Hansraj (Adiantum venustum) which has been given importance in Ayurveda and Tibetan medicine as a cure for many diseases.

• In addition to this, fernery displays many popular and aquatic ferns such as Boston Fern, Lady Fern, Rock Fern, Ladder Fern, Golden Fern, Horsetail Fern and Basket Fern.
